Breaking: Colin Allred to challenge Ted Cruz for Senate, sources say
In winning the District 32 congressional seat in 2018, Allred cast himself as a hometown product looking to provide sensible solutions to the problems facing Texas and his northern Dallas County district. Raised by a single mother, he touted his education at Hillcrest High School and ran on a platform of protecting the Affordable Care Act, which Sessions and Republicans -- led by Donald Trump -- had pledged to dismantle.
In 2020, the last Texas Senate race, incumbent John Cornyn beat former Air Force combat pilot MJ Hegar by about 10 percentage points.
