As temperatures continue to drop, some in Northern Ireland are entitled to Cold Weather Payments

The Cold Weather Payment is available when the average temperature is recorded or is forecast to be zero degrees centigrade or below, for a period of seven consecutive days. The first payments were triggered on Friday, December 9, and were for eight postal code areas. On Tuesday, December 13, the Cold Weather Payments were extended to additional postcode areas.The Met Office notifies the Department for Communities when the trigger for Cold Weather Payments has been reached, that is when the average temperature is, or is forecast to be, zero degrees centigrade or below over seven consecutive days.
Only those qualifying customers living in these postcode areas will receive the £25 payment. The payments will be made automatically and there is no need to make a claim. Customers in Castlederg and Thomastown postcode areas can expect to receive their payment by Wednesday December 21, with customers in the other postcode areas receiving payment by Wednesday December 14.
