Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A little over a decade after it came to an end, Cold Case is getting the reboot treatment. The original CBS police procedural revolved around Lilly Rush, a homicide detective working in the Philadelphia Police Department for their cold case division, as she worked with her team to solve investigations that have laid dormant anywhere from a few years to a century old.

Led by Kathryn Morris, the show garnered strong reviews throughout its run, though struggled with ratings in later seasons, eventually being cancelled after season 7. Deadline has now brought word that CBS is looking to bring back Cold Case with a reboot of the police procedural. The new version of the show is expected to take place 15 years after the original and be set in the Southwest, following a new cast of characters, though the report doesn't indicate whether any previous stars are being ruled out to return. Original creator Meredith Stiehm is also back to write the script for the pilot and executive produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer via his TV banner and KristieAnne Reed for Warner Bros. Television. Now Is The Perfect Time For A Cold Case Reboot Close The announcement of a Cold Case reboot comes at a time in which many TV shows are enjoying new life, either as a full-on reboot or decades-later revival. The procedural genre in particular continues to thrive both with original properties and the revivals of others, as evidenced by Law & Order recently premiering its third season since being revived by NBC. More than just riding this trendy wave, though, a modern Cold Case could have a lot to offer for audiences. Throughout its original seven seasons, Cold Case sought to be far more than another entertaining procedural, often using its cases to touch on themes of racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, abortion and police brutality. With over a decade passed since the show first ended, these social topics remain as prevalent and frequently explored in media. However, with more time and authoritative voices on such matters being far greater in number than during the show's original run, the new Cold Case could find even more meaningful ways to highlight these topics. Related 10 Best TV Procedurals From The 2000s, Ranked Television procedurals have been a favorite genre for a while, and those that debuted in the 2000s are among the genre's most outstanding examples. The shift in location for the Cold Case reboot is also a promising sign of its chances at success. The majority of crime procedurals ultimately are set in the American Northeast, leaving many unexplored regions and unsolved cases, particularly as they regard to such matters as police brutality, immigration and homophobia. While no deal is in place as of yet for the reboot to get underway, the stars look to be aligning just right for a new Cold Case.Cold Case Where to Watch *Availability in USThe Philadelphia homicide squad's lone female detective finds her calling when she's assigned"cold cases," older crimes that have never been solved.
