CAPE TOWN - Over 100 homeless people have been evicted by the City of Cape Town law enforcement officials at the Green Point tennis courts.When the city was granted the go-ahead by the court, they were also told to provide alternative accommodation for the affected homeless communities.Occupiers said that they were not even given the opportunity to grab their belongings, such as identity documents and medication.
One of the occupiers at the tennis court, Evette Lewis, said they were not treated like human beings. "There's no dignity. I mean these people are losing everything right now. I mean could they have some respect, like the people that are doing it, the law enforcement, I don’t know CCID, everyone." According to the evictees, they were not offered any alternative accommodation and were left to fend for themselves on the street.
