Cobra Kai, a hit Netflix show, revives the nostalgic 1980s martial arts classic, The Karate Kid. The series explores the contrasting philosophies of Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do karate through a new generation of students.

Since premiering in 2018, Cobra Kai has been attracting more and more viewers, keen to relive the nostalgia of the 1980s. The show truly blew up when it moved to Netflix , and it's been going from strength to strength ever since. Reuniting some of the most popular characters from The Karate Kid trilogy, the show shined a spotlight on this classic of martial arts for a whole new generation, with some of Cobra Kai 's actors being real, trained martial artists.

With former Karate Kid characters like Daniel LaRusso, Johnny Lawrence, and John Kreese reuniting, and a newer, younger cast learning the skills from scratch from Cobra Kai's senseis, it's interesting to see the different approaches to training and fighting. With some of the students trained in the way of Cobra Kai, with a focus on striking first, striking hard, and absolutely no mercy, and others practicing the peaceful teachings of Mr. Miyagi himself, it's interesting to see how these skills translate to the 21st century. It's especially fun to consider how many of the Cobra Kai actors perform their own stunts and fight themselves. 11 Demetri Alexopoulos Played by Gianni DeCenzo Close This brainy and quirky character starts off the show with little interest in karate or any type of martial arts. He's best friends with Eli Moskowitz (Jacob Bertrand) who later transforms into his alter-ego, Hawk. The two initially join the Cobra Kai dojo, after years of being bullied at school, but Johnny's (William Zabka) unorthodox tactics don't appeal to Demetri and he leaves. It's not until he joins Miyagi-Do that he finds more joy in the ancient art form. Under the teaching of Daniel LaRusso, he becomes a more confident fighter who can hold his own in many dangerous situations. As he follows his sensei's moral and ethical principles, his style of fighting reflects that. He showcases restraint, uses his opponents' aggression against them, and focuses more on counter-attack
