Coast Guard searching for 4 missing divers off North Carolina coast
The divers, all men, dived from the pleasure craft Big Bill's, approximately 63 miles east of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at about noon on Sunday, the Coast Guard said. As night approached and then arrived, the men had not resurfaced.The agency said its branches communicated with one another once they learned the men were not accounted for, and they launched a"multi-asset search and rescue effort.
The coordinated plan has included an"MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew; an HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew; an HC-130 aircraft crew; a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew; the Coast Guard Cutter Sailfish; an 87-foot patrol boat," and"the Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin, an 87-foot patrol boat."The rescue crews have come from North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and New Jersey.
The men are believed to be south of Cape Fear. The Coast Guard said crews will continue searching throughout the night.
