A 73-year-old man who suffered an injury while hiking near Cape Johnson in Olympic National Park was rescued on Monday by the Coast Guard.
At 1:50 p.m., Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a call from the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center after park rangers requested help in rescuing a man with a leg injury.
Park rangers were alerted after the injured man’s son had hiked to a location along a nearby road to get cellphone reception. At 2:15 p.m., a Coast Guard helicopter crew stopped their training operations, refueled at Air Station Port Angeles and rescued the man at 3:18 p.m. by pulling him up from the beach.
