A day after finding a plane debris field about a mile off the coast of San Clemente Island, the U.S. Coast Guard has called off a search for the three people believed to be on board.
The U.S. Coast Guard launched a search and rescue crew Wednesday after reports of a downed plane about a mile off the coast of San Clemente Island but suspended the search a day later.
According to the Coast Guard, watchstanders at the Joint Harbor Operations Center in San Diego received the initial reports around 7:53 a.m. about the plane with three people on board. The crew launched soon after and was sent from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station San Diego in a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter.
