As election day approaches, the question is whether the campaign diet being fed to the electorate is nourishing enough to render rationaOf course, voters make decisions on the basis of more than the noise on the election hustings.
The issue is whether the form and content of election campaigns matter and whether, as parties crunch and respond to the numbers from opinion research, they resort to the lowest common denominator. At issue was whether the contribution by a Bosasa executive to an intraparty presidential campaign had been declared. Lo and behold, this was not the case, we were told.
Without making light of an issue that requires attention across the political spectrum, the hope is that the Political Party Funding Act will help address this matter, in its provision that no one should give “a donation to a member of a political party other than for party political purposes”.
