El presidente saliente Andrés Manuel López Obrador y su sucesora, Claudia Sheinbaum —también miembro de Morena—, se han comprometido a utilizar la mayoría de dos tercios para tratar de realizar 20 cambios constitucionales, incluido el de que todos los jueces sean elegidos por voto popular. Los detractores dicen que el elegir a los jueces podría socavar la independencia del poder judicial y darle un control aún mayor al partido gobernante.
