Abilene Schnieder testifies publicly for the first time after her and her husband's dogs killed Ramon Najera Jr., 81, in a attack on West Side
A woman charged along with her husband in a dog attack that killed an elderly Air Force veteran told a judge Wednesday that San Antonio Animal Care Services gave her little direction when she reclaimed two of her pit bulls from the agency just six weeks before the fatal mauling. The pretrial hearing marked the first time Abilene Schnieder , 32, testified publicly about the mauling that killed Leon Valley resident Ramon Najera Jr. , 81, on San Antonio’s West Side last year.
During 90 minutes of testimony Wednesday, Sims reported that ACS could not have pursued further action without a sworn affidavit from a victim or firsthand witness complaining about the dogs. Sims pushed back against defense attorney Jorge Aristotelidis' suggestions that ACS didn’t take swift or severe enough action before Ramon Najera was killed. “There were a multitude of bites associated with this address and multiple dogs associated in different events,” Sims said.
