Josh Schnell says a 'lot of hard work has been put in and it feels great to see it paying off'
A Co Antrim athlete has been chosen to represent Ireland at the upcoming European Triathlon Championships in Vichy, France.
Schnell, who has been playing sports since the age of four, added: “Growing up in Cushendall, my sporting life revolved around hurling. I progressed to represent Antrim Minors, albeit in truth I was probably a better athlete than a hurler. Josh and his three schoolmates were recognised by Electric Ireland and awarded the GAA Minor Special Recognition Award and the Michaela Harte Foundation Wings Award for their bravery. Schnell has always been a gifted athlete, but it wasn’t until 2020 that he discovered athletics.
Schnell’s dedication is apparent in week-in week-out rigorous training. The athlete will train for at least one hour everyday, with some training days lasting up to nearly five hours.
