The southbound lanes of I-95 in Philadelphia will be closed from Feb. 24 to Feb. 26, 2024, to allow crews to work on the demolition of the viaduct and bridge overhead at Chestnut Street and park. Drivers are advised to avoid the closure area due to expected backups and delays.
The Feb. 24 to Feb. 26, 2024 closure should allow crews to take down a section of reinforced concrete covering over the southbound lanes of I-95 where the I-95 CAP park is being built. The closure of the southbound lanes will give crews the ability to work on the demolition of the viaduct and bridge overhead at Chestnut Street and park that are being replaced as part of the $329 million CAP project. The maps in this story show alternate routes for drivers to avoid the mess.
Drivers are advised to avoid the closure area because significant backups and delays will occur on I-95 and several surface streets in the vicinity of the work area," PennDOT said. Drivers beware!
