Dennis Blanchette described how he was treated by the SPCA, saying he was told by several veterinarian hospitals he needed $150 to $300 up front, which he called “inhumane.”

WILKES-BARRE — A Luzerne County jury heard Dennis Blanchette admit to strangling his dog, Sky, a 3-year-old Husky mix, to death behind his former residence on South Meade Street in Wilkes-Barre in August 2019.

Blanchette described how he was treated by the SPCA, saying he was told by several veterinarian hospitals he needed $150 to $300 up front, which he called “inhumane.” Blanchette said Sky was not her “high energy” self, was vomiting “diapers and garbage” and had severe diarrhea. Sky’s condition grew worse during the night and Blanchette said he began calling veterinarian hospitals, only to be told he needed cash up front.

Fiedorczyk said many veterinarian hospitals will offer free euthanasia depending on the circumstance, but the offer is not advertised.
