The bodies of Wayne Godinet and his five children were expected to be recovered from the burnt-out wreckage on Monday.

Police say a blaze that took the lives of five children and their father requires “further scrutiny”, as investigators work to retrieve their bodies from the wreckage of a burnt Russell Island home.Wayne Godinet and Samantha Stephenson.Godinet’s partner, Samantha Stephenson, and another woman escaped the blaze and raised the alarm. They were released from hospital on Monday morning.

Massingham said police were investigating whether Godinet was supposed to be at the residence. He said Godinet was known to police. “Whilst these issues are very emotive, it is very important that not only us as investigators keep an open mind, but it’s also important for the community to think that way, as challenging as that may be for some people,” he said.The fire engulfed the Todman Street home, and also spread to two neighbouring properties.Massingham said the bodies would be retrieved from the wreckage on Monday, with emergency services dealing with several issues at the scene, including contamination.
