Plans filed with the city of San Antonio show a 211-room hotel replacing the Pig Stand restaurant along Broadway.
The Pig Stand diner along Broadway near Pearl could be demolished to make way for a hotel that would be part of the sprawling Broadway East development. Plans submitted to the city by Merritt Development Group and DLR Group show a 211-room AC Hotel at the corner of Broadway and Casa Blanca Streets that would replace the Pig Stand , which closed last year, and two other adjacent buildings. The hotel would have meeting space, a bar and pool on the roof and parking.

Pig Stand’s last stand draws last-day crowds GrayStreet began buying land for Broadway East in 2014 and gradually amassed over 20 acres, including the Pig Stand property, which it acquired last year. The diner, which closed in March 2023, was the last vestige of a chain that began in Dallas in 1921. The San Antonio firm planned to partner with Midway, a Houston developer, to build Broadway East in phases through 2030.
San Antonio developer changes plans for major project near Pearl The developers scaled back their plans for Broadway East last year, according to plans presented to the Government Hill Alliance neighborhood association. They reduced the height and density of buildings fronting Broadway and Covey said it's unlikely that office space would be part of the project because of difficulty financing it.

Oxbow Development Group, the development arm of Pearl owner Silver Ventures, is building a 166-room hotel on a parking lot along East Elmira Street across the San Antonio River from Pearl. The eight-story hotel will have about 13,000 square feet of meeting space and a rooftop pool, bar and restaurant and is expected to be finished in 2026.
