The Recording Academy says each of its events will have a fundraising element to support those impacted by the wildfires.
“We understand how devastating this past week has been on this city and its people,” Harvey Mason Jr., Academy and MusiCares CEO, says in a statement. “This is our home, it’s home to thousands of music professionals, and many of us have been negatively impacted.
The live awards show, set for Feb. 2 on CBS, will raise additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and also honor first responders. Davis’ white-hot gala will take place on Feb. 1, the same day of the Special Merit Awards, which will pay tribute to Prince, Frankie Beverly, The Clash, Dr. Bobby Jones, Taj Mahal, Roxanne Shante and Frankie Valli. MusiCares will honor the Grateful Dead on Jan. 31.
