Clint Eastwood's last film, Juror #2, achieved high critical and audience scores but was sent straight to streaming by Warner Bros. It has since become a popular title on HBO Max, indicating the decision to bypass theaters may have been premature.
When it comes to actors and directors who have dedicated their life to making movies, few stars have sacrificed as much as Clint Eastwood. An argument can be made about Tom Cruise, but he still has to continue his work in Hollywood for another 20 or so years to be in the same conversation as Eastwood.
Clint Eastwood's Iconic Western Career
Back in the 1950s and 1960s, Clint Eastwood developed a name for himself, starring in some of the most iconic Westerns of all time, many of which have become personal favorites over the years for directors like Quentin Tarantino. Now that Eastwood is 96 years old, most signs point to his career as a director and actor being over, but he was releasing new movies as recently as a few years ago.
His last film even became the streaming hit that may define the later years of his career. Back in 2024, Warner Bros. released what has now been confirmed to be Clint Eastwood's final movie, Juror #2. Starring Nicholas Hoult and J.K. Simmons opposite Toni Collette, Juror #2 debuted with immaculate scores of 93% from critics and 90% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
Juror 2 Becomes a Streaming Hit
Despite these strong reviews, which were some of the best of any Eastwood movie of his entire career, Warner Bros. opted not to give the film a wide theatrical release and instead dumped Juror #2 straight to streaming on HBO Max at the end of 2024. Now two years later, Juror #2 is still one of the most-watched movies in the world on HBO Max in several countries, as it continues to prove that it should have been given a theatrical release in America.
