Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the Defence Strategic Review found that the acceleration of major climate events risks “overwhelming” the government’s capacity to respond effectively and is “detracting” from defence objectives.

Mr Clennell said the review mentioned state and local governments, in partnership with the Commonwealth, must have in

place the “necessary plans, resources and capabilities” to deal with all but the most “extreme domestic disaster operations”.
