If all three projects move forward – plus the new headquarters building – Cleveland police will occupy 12 sites around the city, including the five neighborhood police districts, according to documents provided to council.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland’s $90 million plan to renovate an historic Superior Avenue building into a new police headquarters is advancing through City Council -- but it isn’t the only money city officials plan to spend in coming years for new Cleveland police facilities.

The Mayor’s Office of Capital Projects unveiled the expected cost for the SWAT unit and stables on Wednesday, in response to council’s questions about the overall facility needs for Cleveland police. The current stables are located near the Shoreway on East 38th Street. They need to be moved because they stand in the way of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s plans to smooth out Dead Man’s Curve, said Carter Edman, the city’s manager of architecture and site development.

The city has already set aside money to prepare the site for the stables, but council has not signed off on money for the building itself, capital projects Director James DeRosa said.
