Cleveland Soccer Group is partnering with Rock Entertainment to help bring a national Women’s Soccer League team to Cleveland in 2026.
Clevelanders can “Back the Bid” for $26, receiving a “Back the Bid” T-shirt, digital kit badge for social media, the right to secure priority tickets when they go on sale and exclusive updates from Cleveland Soccer Group’s founders, according to a press release.The move for a team in Cleveland would make it the only city on the state of Ohio to host a major professional women’s sport, the release says.
The NWSL’s expansion to the city would make Cleveland the epicenter of women’s soccer in the region and host to the only major professional women’s sports team in the state. “We’ve watched the growth of soccer in this country and believe that the time is right for professional soccer in Cleveland,” said Rock Entertainment Group CEO Nic Barlage.
“Cleveland has a long history of representing major sports and events well on a national stage,” said David Gilbert, President and CEO of the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. “The NWSL would find in Cleveland a committed city and fan base that would support its players and make an ideal partner to continue the long-term growth of the league.
