The Famicos Foundation said it hopes to pursue funding to create affordable housing at the site, but that it has had trouble securing the building due to vandalism and lingering roof damage from a November fire. So it wants to tear down the building.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Plans are in the works to tear down a popular former restaurant, the shuttered Sterle’s Country House, to make way for new housing on Cleveland’s East Side.
In plans submitted to the city ahead of Friday’s Planning Commission meeting, Famicos said it hopes to pursue funding to create affordable housing at the site, but that it has had trouble securing the building due to vandalism and lingering roof damage from a November fire. So it wants to tear down the building.
“Sterle’s is one of the things that makes Cleveland Cleveland,” he told The Plain Dealer in 2012. “But times are changing. I wanted to build on our tradition, and appeal to people who might not have family in the neighborhood.”
