Patrol Officer Ta’Lor Payne, who also engaged in a spat with the victim’s family member on Instagram’s direct messaging platform, should receive a six to 10-day suspension without pay for unprofessional conduct, the board ruled.
CLEVELAND, Ohio - A Cleveland police officer who responded to a homicide call should be disciplined for commenting about the active case on a public Instagram forum, the city’s Civilian Police Review Board unanimously ruled Tuesday.
Payne’s comment linked back to her personal Instagram page, which according to a city investigator testifying at Tuesday’s hearing had a handle that was some variation of “Get Fit. It’s Payneless” and made it clear she was a police officer.post in reference to Harris said, “This old man just got on TV and lied.”
One family member of Ray’s sent Payne a private message to confront her. Payne responded, claiming that she was merely posting public information, and that the family was “choosing to be ignorant.” Payne told investigators she didn’t think there was any harm in posting factual information based on research on a county website.
