Cleveland police officer charged with possessing child porn

Cleveland police officer Brandon Crites was charged in federal court in Cleveland with possessing child pornography.

CLEVELAND, Ohio— Federal prosecutors have charged a Cleveland police officer with possessing and distributing child pornography.

Brandon Crites, 32, of Parma faces two counts of child pornography. He pleaded not guilty Friday at his arraignment in federal court in Cleveland. Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer reached out for comment to city spokeswoman Marie Zickefoose, police spokesman Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz and Crites’ attorney, Joseph Patituce.

Crites is being held in federal custody until a detention hearing Friday in front of U.S. District Judge Donald Nugent. Prosecutors accused Crites of receiving and distributing “numerous” images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to court records.Investigators found he downloaded and shared child pornography from August 2022 through August 2023.Crites was hired as a police officer in January 2019. He was a patrolmen in the department.
