Since early March, police have been investigating at least five incidents of officer impersonation, police said.
On Sunday, a man was driving near Broadway and Blanche avenues about 6:20 p.m. when he called police to report a vehicle “that used police-type lights” attempting to pull him over.The victim called police and remained on the line with dispatchers as he drove to the Third District police station on Chester Avenue. As the victim headed there, the suspect veered in another direction, police said.
The incident came two days after several people were robbed at gunpoint Saturday morning. Police said suspects in a Kia Sportage with flashing red and blue lights pulled them over at 3 a.m. in the 3000 block of West 48th Street. Hours before, at about 11 p.m. Friday, four suspects, driving a Volkswagen SUV with police-type lights, pulled over and robbed two people at gunpoint in the 3200 block of West 65th Street. They stole $1,000, a watch, a cellphone and driver’s licenses, according to a police report.Days earlier, on March 28, a man told police at about 2:42 p.m. that he was attempting to buy cell phones from a person near East 152nd Street and Lakeshore Avenue.
Earlier last month, on March 7, a man was driving on Ohio 2 at the West 45th Street exit when a vehicle with blue and red flashing lights pulled him over. Four suspects robbed him at gunpoint and took his car.
