A Cleveland Police officer is under investigation after reports say he and an ex-officer from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) unlawfully detained a man they called “illegal” in a Medina County bar.
MEDINA COUNTY, Ohio - A Cleveland Police officer and a former Drug Enforcement Administration officer are under investigation after police reports say they unlawfully detained a man they called “illegal” in a Medina County bar.
Body-camera footage shows the one officer pinning the victim to the ground when Brunswick Police arrived on scene.The victim was a 38-year-old from Texas who had a valid Texas ID. Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd sent out a release Friday saying the incident was under investigation. As a reminder for all members, especially those assigned to Task Force Operations, the Division of Police is committed to providing constitutional, bias-free policing. When working with our federal, state, and local partners, my expectation is that dedication to the Division’s mission, policies, and training will never waiver. Members are expected to always perform their duties in compliance with the law, our polices and with respect to all those we encounter.
