The Cleveland Museum of Natural History has unveiled its new, immersive exhibits after a decade-long project. The exhibits offer visitors a chance to engage with science in a hands-on way, learning through exploration and discovery.
A project a decade in the making, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History showcased the new exhibits, bringing science to the visitor’s fingertips. It was the largest collective effort in the museum’s history, said associate director of museum experience Josh Avsec. He explains that while some of the classics, like looming fossils of dinosaurs, can be found in the new exhibits, but so can a more immersive experience, a chance for people to reach out and touch science.
People learning without realizing they’re learning, and it is a pretty cool thing to witness, said Avsec. Me and you, Colton, we’re just like all these kids running around, and we remember what it was like to see a lion up close and see a dinosaur for the first time, and we’re hoping that is happening as we speak, and we know that can happen way better when you’re right next to it. Avsec says the redesigned exhibits have been open just under two weeks, but the reception has already been a swell of people, noting that over 300 people arrived at the museum within the first 30 minutes of the doors opening on Christmas Eve. The transformation cost $150 million, took a decade of planning, and has been under construction since 2021. I’m really excited for hopefully people to come in and experience it, not read what we have to offer, but I experience it, said Avsec
