Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) have launched a groundbreaking partnership that automatically admits 2,100 graduating seniors to Tri-C, simplifying the college application process and aiming to expand educational opportunities.
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) recently announced a groundbreaking partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) aimed at simplifying the college application process for high school seniors. Under the Direct Admission Partnership, 2,100 graduating seniors from CMSD were automatically admitted to Tri-C this fall, marking a significant step towards breaking down barriers to higher education .
The partnership involves the sharing of student data between CMSD and Tri-C, streamlining the admissions process and allowing students to focus on their academic pursuits. \While the automatic admission removes the traditional application hurdle, students still need to accept the offer and formally enroll, select a major or certificate program, and choose a campus. Tri-C ensures a supportive transition with personalized resources like advising sessions and financial aid workshops, along with clear communication for families regarding enrollment steps and affordability. The initiative is not only designed to benefit CMSD graduates but also aims to boost Tri-C's enrollment, which has faced a decline in recent years. \Across Ohio and the nation, colleges are grappling with shrinking student populations due to various factors, including declining birth rates and a growing number of students forgoing higher education. Tri-C's enrollment has dropped by approximately 33% over the last decade, exceeding the state's average decline of 11.4%. The Direct Admission Partnership is a strategic move to address this trend and provide a clear pathway for motivated students to pursue their academic goals. \Besides the automatic admission, the partnership offers additional support for CMSD students through the Say Yes Scholar program, which provides up to $2,500 scholarships for full-time students who maintain satisfactory academic progress. The program also encompasses one-on-one coaching, priority registration, tutoring services, and technology assistance. \CMSD CEO Warren Morgan expressed optimism about the partnership's potential to create a seamless transition for students and highlighted the possibility of future collaborations with other institutions. He emphasized the district's commitment to providing exceptional learning experiences and supporting student success. \Selena Florence, CMSD's Chief Academic Officer, underscored the importance of empowering students to achieve their full potential and stated that the partnership with Tri-C provides a valuable platform for continued academic growth beyond their experiences within CMSD. The initiative exemplifies a commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring that all students have access to quality higher education opportunities
