It would carry the city through March 31, allowing council time to sort out the overall financial picture for the rest of the year.
Cleveland Heights council, shown here at its Dec. 9 special meeting, has asked for a temporary 2025 budget to tide the city over through the first financial quarter ending March 21 in order to get a clearer fiscal forecast of the coming year -- as well as any loose ends going back to 2023.
“Certainly, we will listen to whatever answers we can get this week,” Council President Tony Cuda said during Monday’s follow-up special meeting. Lengthy discussions have ensued in several special council meetings called this month, although members say they still have not received any written answers to dozens of their questions.
Councilman Jim Posch said that while the city administration began its own budget discussions around mid-year, “we can’t expect council to wait until the second half of November.” Some council members have been at odds with the administration’s proposal to cover any anticipated deficit with the cash reserve.
That includes 20 percent to be paid within the first two years of the deal that council approved in September.
