FBI Director Christopher Wray appointed Nelson on Monday. Nelson most recently served as the deputy assistant director of the Criminal Justice Information Services in West Virginia.
Gregory D. Nelsen was named the special agent in charge of Cleveland's FBI office.CLEVELAND, Ohio — A new leader of the Cleveland FBI office was announced on Monday.
Nelsen takes over for Eric Smith, who retired in May after leading Cleveland’s office for three years. Smith is now vice president at Sierra Space, a commercial space-travel company based in Colorado. The center is the agency’s technology hub and includes an array of responsibilities, including the FBI’s crime lab, fingerprint technology and analysis of crime statistics. It also helps local police and intelligence agencies.
He began working in 2006 as the FBI’s supervisory agent to the Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate in Washington, D.C., and was assigned to the Central Intelligence Agency’s Counter Terrorist Center’s Iraq unit for two years.
