About 150 honorees and their supporters gathered Thursday for a Top Nurses gala breakfast at the Cuyahoga Community College.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — While Greater Clevelanders reeled from the news that a 3-year-old boy had been stabbed to death in a Giant Eagle parking lot, nurse Donna Hurst was se sitting with the family, sharing their despair for nine hours.
The event honored 10 Top Nurses, one Lifetime Achievement award winner and one Team Award winner, all selected from among 141 nominations. She related that while she didn’t answer Obama’s phone call because she didn’t recognize the number, “I have saved in about 32 places.” When the veteran was admitted to a hospital earlier this year, Crawford arranged for a safe temporary home for the dog with another staff member. The veteran and his dog were later reunited, thanks to Crawford’s action.Several award winners remembered how watching nurses during family illnesses inspired them to become caregivers. Honoree Laurie Gronowski of the Cleveland Clinic said she became a caregiver because she admired the nurses who helped her during childhood surgeries.
