Johnston talked about her long career in journalism and how she has worked her way up from covering local politics to helping run the newsroom and producing a podcast for cleveland.com .
While in college, Johnston took many internships with multiple different news sources, all while managing classes and a lifeguard job. Though it was a lot for her to juggle, she “highly, highly recommends” that any students who want to pursue journalism as a career take as many internships as they can.
Johnston eventually moved back to Cleveland, where she applied for work and on April 16th, 2007 she started her new job at The Plain Dealer.
