The Clinic’s MENtion It survey looked into health priorities and concerns among men from different generations and discovered a generational divide in health habits, mental health and the use of social media as a source of health information and other topics, the Clinic said.

Younger men are more open to talking about mental health, said Dr. Petar Bajic, director of the Center for Men’s Health at Cleveland Clinic.CLEVELAND, Ohio — Younger men may not get routine cancer screenings, but they do prioritize mental health, a recent national Cleveland Clinic annual MENtion It

“We want to make sure people are being proactive about their physical health routine screening -- that’s seeing primary care doctors to make sure that they’re up to date on all that, so that when they do develop health issues, they’re caught early when they’re more treatable,” Bajic said. “Many conditions if you wait too long, they may not be reversible.”

It’s critical to have a relationship with a primary care provider to make sure that they’re taking into consideration things like your individual risk factors, your family history and any other underlying medical problems to determine what types of screenings you need, Bajic said. “Social media we know is oftentimes not the most reliable, most accurate types of information,” Bajic said. It’s best to research information found on social media by also looking online for information from reliable sources.

About 60% of Gen X and Boomer men avoid smoking and vaping, as compared to 43% of millennials and Gen Z men.
