Let’s face it, folks. The Browns' workmanlike approach to rebuilding their offensive line has not made for a sexy offseason. Attention has already shifted to the 2026 draft where, once again, the Browns' likely moves are obvious to anyone who has been paying attention. It’s a somnolent Newswire.

I spent the weekend out of town for a family wedding, and while it was great to see family again, my mind never drifted far from Cleveland and my friends at the OBR. Saturday was a quiet news day, and I thought a great deal about how we’re heading to the 2026 season, both in terms of the Browns ’ progress and my work here at the OBR.

Despite having a great team of writers really hitting on all cylinders, it’s obvious that free agency enthusiasm is muted a bit in 2026, at least as indicated by our traffic. The Browns are doing much as we expected, sticking to unglamorous free-agent acquisitions while quietly trying to knit together an offensive line and fill a few holes on defense. Most casual fans are unlikely to have known any of the players the team has acquired, and there’s been no movement at skill positions, other than the addition of a tight end who will likely have to fight for a roster spot. While the team has made good strides in rebuilding its offensive line, they’ve done so in a way that’s under the radar for the mainstream sports fan. Hands up, who came into the offseason eagerly anticipating the possible addition of Zion Johnson or Tytus Howard? If you’re like me, you might have been hoping for something a little more transformative, despite Andrew Berry’s warnings that the team would be more low-key this offseason. The Browns’ off-season, in other words, has been a bit of a yawner. They replaced Kevin Stefanski with a new head coach lacking a “big name” and a proven track record of leading a team. They stayed out of the Malik Willis sweepstakes, have no dire need of a quarterback-killing edge rusher, and wisely decided not to overpay for anyone in this year’s crop of wide receivers. Instead, they’ve stuck to the mundane task of turning over their offensive line. Quincy Williams will bePerhaps you’re excited about the common-sense moves the Browns have made, but my sense is that the vast majority of the human population, which doesn’t read the morning Browns bloviation each day, isn’t. The Browns steadfastly refuse to make splashy moves that don’t fit into their plan. Good. The problem, like a lot of things in post-1999 Cleveland Browns life, is at quarterback. Trying to sell Deshaun Watson as an “intriguing” quarterback open is going to entertain Browns fans like a waitress throwing an uncooked, dead carp onto a table of hungry diners. Shedeur Sanders has some potential and had one very solid game as a starter as a rookie, but most fans aren’t anticipating him to be a revelation in 2026. Few expect a huge leap in quarterback play from the group this season. Fortunately for the Browns, it’s unlikely that the Cavaliers or Guardians will catch fire enough to drag attention away from them. They will still have a mostly full stadium come September, but there’s little “edge” to date. This team seems firmly fixated on making bigger moves in 2027, as nearly everyone expected. Ho-hum., in an unsurprising move to anyone who noticed when he signed a cheap one-year deal in 2025. Ford had some nice moments in Cleveland, but with the addition of Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson in last year’s draft, he became an odd man out., which tells you everything about where fans’ heads are at right now. Attention swings entirely to the draft at this point. Why Browns Newest LB Describes His Play Like a ‘Cheetah Chasing a Gazelle’; Excited to be Back with Former DCI lost my father and father-in-law to prostate cancer, and I get tests done every year to try to catch it if it sneaks up on me. Any progress in better diagnosing and treating this scourge gets a Webdorkian thumbs up from me.When not trying to stay awake until the draft, Barry McBride is the Publisher and Founder of the OBR and bloviates this nonsense every morning.
