Cleveland Ballet and Cleveland Opera will stage a free performance from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Italian Cultural Garden.
Dancer Marla Alayda from Cleveland says audiences will see different styles of dance.
Lorenzo Pontiggia, who joined the company from Milan, Italy, is excited to be an Italian-born dancer performing in the Italian Cultural Gardens. “To perform outside is always special for me because I can see the reaction of the audience. There’s just a closer connection to the people and I think it brings a different audience from the one that comes to the theater which helps the company grow,” he says.
“The atmosphere is like Blossom Music Center,” says event producer Joyce Mariani. “They come with picnics and chairs. Some bring tables and crystal.”The largest garden in the Cleveland Cultural Garden collection, the Italian garden at 990 East Blvd., was dedicated in 1930. Designed to resemble a Renaissance Garden, the stone architecture and floral gardens will make a remarkable backdrop for the evening. The stone amphitheater is a natural location for performances.
