Although the Ohio Mission Acceleration Center will be based in the Miami Valley, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown said it will partner with companies and facilities in Cleveland and elsewhere in the state.

Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth looks over the latest version of the M1A2 Abrams main battle tank as she tours the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, in Lima, Ohio. WASHINGTON, D. C. - The Defense Department has selected Ohio to be one of five “defense innovation hubs” to promote the development of defense-related technology and help small businesses in the state work with the Defense Department.

The pair said the Ohio Mission Acceleration Center will bring different organizations together – including startups, academia, industry, local and federal partners, and other local talent and technology – to promote innovation, connect them directly to Department of Defense needs, and strengthen the defense industrial base. The Defense Department is providing $1.9 million for the project.

“The idea is to assess the technologies and the companies out there that can do the work and match those two different needs, so that process is actually ongoing,” said Gessel.
