Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has become one of the growing number of airports that accept mobile driver's licenses as a form of identification for security checkpoints. Travelers with iPhones who have uploaded their driver's licenses to Apple Wallet can now simply hold their device near a TSA reader, eliminating the need to physically hand over their ID. The program is currently limited to iPhone users in Ohio, but the state plans to offer Android support through Google Wallet in the future.
Travel ers who have uploaded their driver's license to Apple Wallet no longer have to hand over their ID at security checkpoints in Cleveland. CLEVELAND, Ohio – You no longer have to physically hand over your ID to go through security at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport – but only if you’ve uploaded your driver’s license to your iPhone first.
Cleveland Hopkins is among a growing number of airports, including Columbus and Cincinnati, that now accept mobile IDs, according to TSA. To use a mobile license at a TSA checkpoint, travelers simply hold their device – either an iPhone or Apple Watch -- near a TSA reader. There is no need to hand over the phone, according to the agency.
According to Apple, ID information is encrypted on a user’s device, so others -- including Apple -- cannot access it unless a user chooses to present it.
