Gahan, Bowers star in PKs for Pioneers
After hitting the post twice on headers in the second overtime period, the junior forward converted the game-winning penalty kick in a shootout to lead Clearview past Washington Township in a thrilling final of the South Jersey Coaches Tournament on Saturday night at DeCou Field in Cherry Hill.The rivals played to a 2-2 tie through regulation and two extra periods before Clearview prevailed 2-1 in the shootout for the program’s first-ever Coaches Cup title.

Clearview senior goalie Connor Bowers made two clutch saves in the shootout. Washington Township’s final attempt after Gahan’s goal sailed over the net.
“As the keeper, I’m always going to blame goals on myself,” Bowers said. “When that ball goes in and I see them rally around me and believe in me, that’s what keeps me going. That’s why I love this team so much, because everybody believes in each other and has a genuine love for everybody else. It’s one of the greatest soccer environments I’ve ever been around.”
Gahan came close to ending the game in double OT, the first time on a free kick and the second on a corner.
