A Clay County Fire Rescue unit was involved in a crash Sunday afternoon resulting in several people being taken to the hospital.

The crash happened around 2:20 p.m. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the ambulance was traveling north on Knight Box Road with the lights and sirens activated when a sports utility vehicle was traveling on Old Jennings Road, approaching Knight Box Road.The ambulance crossed through a red light at the intersection while the SUV also crossed the intersection on a green light, the report said.
Five people including three firefighters and the 40-year-old SUV driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The spokesperson said the firefighters are recovering and two were released from the hospital with the third one expected to be released soon. The intersection of Knight Boxx Road and Old Jennings Road was closed to traffic while drivers were diverted to alternative routes.Copyright 2023 by WJXT News4JAX - All rights reserved.
