A rare 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III with a unique interior designed to be 'paparazzi-friendly' will be auctioned. The car boasts non-reflective leather, a history of celebrity connections, extensive restoration work, and will be available for viewing before the auction.

This Silver Cloud also comes with a “paparazzi-friendly” interior, according to H&H Classics, the auction house putting it up for sale, thanks to a previous owner who “had A-list celebrities as personal friends.” That means, among other things, that the interior is a non-reflective leather, so that the stars sitting inside would appear better amid flash bulbs. “This wonderful 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III has a fascinating history, starting with its first custodian Kenneth Shipman who had the car trimmed to special order with more camera flash-friendly leather,” Damian Jones, an H&H Classics director, said in a statement.Another previous owner of the Silver Cloud III was Philip Carter, a British businessman and former honorary vice president of Chelsea Football Club. The car comes with extensive documentation and appears to have been well cared for, with some 80,000 British pounds, or around $108,000, of restoration work, completed on the auto in 2019. It has spent a lot of time since then sitting in front of restaurants as decoration. Some 7,372 Silver Clouds were produced from 1955 to 1966, all built in Crewe, England. The original Silver Cloud was powered by an inline six-cylinder, weighed nearly two tons, and went from zero to 60 mph in 13.5 seconds. The Silver Cloud III was the final iteration, introduced in 1963 and powered by a 6.2-liter V-8 engine making 220 horsepower. The zero-to-60 time continued to be, simply, “yes,” though no one bought a Silver Cloud with speed in mind. The 1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III will be auctioned on March 18 in Nottinghamshire. Those looking to see the car before placing a bid can do so on March 17.Erik Shilling is digital auto editor at Robb Report.
