Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The voyage home continues, as the hapless four-man crew of Red Dwarf prepares to return for another three episodes of the long-running sci-fi series in 2025.
"We knew we were going to do more Red Dwarf, and we're actually now doing it in the middle of October to the middle of November this year. A 90-minute special, three half-hours. So yes, we are making more. I can't believe I've agreed to do it, I'm insane. I'm much too old." With 2025's new Red Dwarf episodes following the 2020 format, it is clear that the cast and crew have settled on an ideal approach for the series. While the series began as a BBC production that aired on BBC 2 for its first eight seasons, it found a new home on the UKTV comedy-centric channel, Dave, with a miniseries revival, Red Dwarf: Back To Earth, in 2009 that would be followed by three more six-episode seasons in the 2010s.
While half the length of Dave's previously commissioned Red Dwarf seasons and less than the initial standard series order that Llewyn first expected, The Promised Land maintained a consistent viewership that surpassed season 12's viewership. As such, it is clear that, even after 34 years, the series has continued interest as long as the Red Dwarf cast is around. Furthermore, Dave could always commission the series for a longer run should the ratings be consistent in the future.
