Classes in public schools to begin August 29

THE Department of Education has set August 29 as the start of the school year 2023-2024 for the country's public schools.

The announcement was relayed by Education Undersecretary Michael Wesley Poa to reporters on Thursday.Private schools, on the other hand, are allowed to open classes on any date between the first Monday of June and the last day of August.

This is pursuant to Republic Act 11480, or the amendment to the act lengthening the number of school days from 200 days to 220 days.In line with the school opening, Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week, is slated to be held from August 14-19.Early registration for incoming Kindergarten and Grades 1, 7, and 11 students were also held from May 10 to June 9.Last school year 2022-2023, more than 28 million were enrolled in public schools.
