ICYMI: ClaridgesHotel offers free accommodation to London health workers
Claridges has offered free rooms to 40 London-based doctors, nurses, and other key staff who are unable to live at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As well as putting up the staff in rooms, which normally start from £650 a night, the hotel will also provide breakfast and dinner. Paddy McKillen, co-owner of the Maybourne Group, which runs the hotel, said: “Just as it has in the past world wars, Claridge’s has a duty to step up and support the people of London. Teams from all our hotels have volunteered to help and support the dedicated NHS workers at this critical time. We are forever in their debt.”
Some NHS staff are unable to return home during shifts as they live with at-risk relatives. Other NHS staff are not based in London but have been drafted in from other parts of the country. The kitchen at Claridges will also be producing packed meals with the help of volunteer staff to distribute to NHS workers across the city, as well as donating thousands of soaps, toothbrushes, and shampoos.
