“The Blind Side’s” reputation takes an unhappy turn, and Hollywood still has a diversity problem.
Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher on the bench during the first half of a game against the Buffalo Bills in Baltimore in 2010.
The movie centers on a white family, the Tuohys, who take in Michael Oher , a homeless and traumatized Black teen who later becomes an All-American football player for Ole Miss and later the Baltimore Ravens as a first-round pick.
Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, adoptive parents of Baltimore Ravens starting offensive lineman Michael Oher, stand on a street in New Orleans on Feb. 1, 2013. They were depicted in the move"The Blind Side." Suddenly, the narrative of Oher’s life as we have known it swings from the football field to the courtroom in the sort of conservatorship dispute that turned Britney Spears from the “Princess of Pop” to hero of a #FreeBritney social movement and ultimately a symbol of conservatorship law reform and human rights.
