“Now that the Supreme Court has overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide in 1973, could same-sex marriage be next? Or even interracial marriage?” questions columnist Clarence Page.

Christie Jones, from left, Teresa Moreno and Michelle Gregory take selfies under a banner reading"Marriage Equality Now, The law of the land" on North Halsted Street in Chicago as they celebrate the announcement of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding gay marriage, June 26, 2015.

After Republican Sen. Mike Braun of Indiana suggested that such matters as same-sex marriage should be left up to the states, he was asked whether he thought the Supreme Court should also leave interracial marriage to the states. “That is not something that is even up for debate,” he continued, “and I condemn racism in any form, at all levels and by any states, entities, or individuals.”

But in a separate opinion, his fellow conservative, Justice Thomas, called explicitly for the court to “reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence and Obergefell,” referring respectively to decisions on contraception, sodomy and same-sex marriage.
