It’s usually Donald Trump who hogs the media spotlight. But Joe Biden’s State of the Union performance reversed that narrative for one night.
House Speaker Mike Johnson and Vice President Kamala Harris applaud as President Joe Biden arrives to deliver the State of the Union address at the U.S. Capitol on March 7, 2024. Presidential campaigns will always surprise you, but I didn’t expect Donald Trump, a tireless master of media, to be tripped up by his own social media platform.
Let’s give Biden credit, though. He performed well enough to reap the full benefit of our low expectations. Which probably means he did a spectacular job, judging by the smiles I see on Democrats and other never-Trumpers I know.
