Some members of staff will be allowed to continue to work in West Bridgford

The Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council says only "tens of staff" will be affected by plans to move the authority out of its West Bridgford home to a new facility near Hucknall and Linby. Discussions have been taking place for some time on the future of County Hall and plans were recently unveiled to move all council operations there to a new building on the wider Top Wighay development.

"Staff deserve to be heard. It is a big change for some of them." Other concerns for staff were raised by Ashfield Independents member Councillor Dave Shaw, who said: "Let's examine the impact on some of our poorest staff, many of who do not drive and have to rely on public transport."But opening the debate, Councillor Ben Bradley, the Conservative Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said the impact on staff of the authority moving to the new site would be small.

The leader pledged there would continue to be a "permanent base for West Bridgford staff in West Bridgford." He said options could include making improvements to the council's Trent Bridge House building on Fox Road. The cost of building the new office is now set to cost more than £18 million, on top of a previously approved amount of £4.3 million for a new access road for the wider Top Wighay development, which will also include 1,400 houses. Several councillors raised concerns that the costs of the new office could continue to spiral.
