Over the weekend, the agency said it would defy Eskom and not cut electricity in Johannesburg but it now says it's reached an agreement with the utility.

A bold move this weekend from the City of Johannesburg and City Power. The mayor announcing that he's considering legal action against Eskom for its ongoing blackouts. That's after Stage two rolling blackouts were implemented on Saturday. eNCA speaks to City Power's Isaac Mangena for more. CourtesyOver the weekend, the agency said it would defy Eskom and not cut electricity in Johannesburg.

But it now says it's reached an agreement with the utility and will help it deal with its capacity issues.Eskom's Koeberg power station tripped over the weekend and needs to replenish reserves. City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said:"The decision by City Power was based on tech advice received after purchase agreement signed. However, Eskom requested we continue to load shed because of capacity problems.""Yesterday, [Sunday] our executives met with Eskom to come to an agreement.

"We agreed after Eskom presented they're under severe constraints regarding capacity so we agreed, we'll start load-shedding Joburg residents as from today [Monday] to assist Eskom in their capacity issues on their side."
