was sentenced to a year of probation in 2019 after admitting to groping the woman at a Bridgeton eatery.

The lawsuit claimed Santiago entered a Bridgeton cafe several times between October and November 2016 and “made numerous comments of a crude and explicit sexual nature and physically groped and touched Plaintiff’s private body parts and other body parts, all without Plaintiff’s consent or permission.”and suspended from the force.

He was originally indicted on charges of second-degree official misconduct and fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, but he pleaded guilty to a petty disorderly person’s offense of harassment and agreed to quit his job. Under the plea agreement, Santiago admitted he was in uniform and on duty Nov. 8, 2016, when he entered the eatery to pick up lunch and touched a waitress’ buttocks.

The waitress, whose name is being withheld by NJ Advance Media because she is a victim, sued Santiago, the city, police department and police chief in 2018 over the incidents.
