As part of a grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), the City of Mobile recently selected a property on DIP to house their third r
ecycling drop-off center. The new location will be 1750 Dauphin Island Parkway, next to the Waffle House.
Construction is already underway, and our goal is to have the new site up and running by the end of the year. The Peninsula of Mobile, which has partnered with the City of Mobile on several environmental projects in the area, also plans to build a Visitor Information Center on the same site after our facility is up and running.
Last year, the City of Mobile collected 911 tons of recyclable material from existing drop-off centers on Museum Drive and Pinehill Drive. That's a lot, but it is a tiny percentage of the total trash generated by our community.
